Chief Executive Officer of Green Bhutan Corporation Limited conferred Global Green Leadership Award.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Green Bhutan Corporation Limited (GBCL), Mr. Damber S. Rai was honored as one of the “51 Most Impactful Green Leaders” during the eighth edition of The World CSR Congress held at Taj Lands end, Mumbai, India on February 18, 2019.
Global Green Future Summit and Leadership Awards endorsed the award.
51 global leaders that are passionate and committed to bringing social change were recognized with award in light of their extraordinary work and achievements. The award recipients were chosen from pool of global green leaders. The criteria for the award were energy conservation and efficiency, waste reduction , recycling, and responsible disposal, exemplary leadership, assistance, and substantial support in response to one or more environmental emergencies and effective leadership and participation in creating awareness on environmental issues in humanitarian action. Mr. Damber S. Rai, Honorable CEO, GBCL, began his career as Forest Range Officer under Department of Forests and Park Services (DoFPS), Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, Bhutan in 1987. He took over the charges of Thimphu Forest Division as Divisional Forest Officer in 1996. He was appointed as the Park Manager of Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park in 1997. In 2009 he established Wangchuck Centennial National Park, the largest National Park of Bhutan. During his tenure in the two National Parks, he was very instrumental in implementing many conservation interventions and community based development works through Integrated Conservation and Development Programs, covering almost 8 districts in Bhutan. He also served as the Project Manager for Green Bhutan Project for the greening and beautification of Thimphu, the capital city. He served as the Chief Forestry Officer in Nature Recreation and Ecotourism Division; and Forest Protection and Enforcement Division of DoFPS. Mr. Damber Singh Rai also served as the National Focal Point of Bhutan for Man and Biosphere Program-UNESCO. In December 2016, he was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Green Bhutan Corporation Limited, a state-owned enterprise, with the core mandates of landscape afforestation program covering all degraded watersheds, spring-sheds, and degraded wildlife habitats, landscape development, greening, and beautification.
Mr. Damber Singh Rai, CEO, has a Masters Degree in Environmental Management and Restoration from Charles Sturt University, New South Wales, Australia.
