The Habrang Coal Mine, spanning 105.62 acres, was leased to State Mining Corporation Limited (SMCL) in 2015. Located south of a NE-SW ridge, the site contains two prominent streams and lies near the perennial Nyeera Ama Chhu river. The area was thinly forested, with some bushland cleared in phases. Flora included species like Sal, Hillock, and Simul, while fauna included elephants, monkeys, and wild boars. The mining method used is opencast contour strip mining, leading to the removal of topsoil and vegetation, exposing bedrocks. This disturbance, particularly in Blocks A and B, has affected the local water sources, as depicted in the provided map. The restoration plan aims to promote ecological integrity, ensure stability, and enhance local biodiversity through the use of native plants and compatible landscape designs, ultimately making the area self-sustaining for future land use.
